Team Lip Oils?

So I got rid of all my lip balms…

So I’m sure anyone that has crustasion lips like I did this past winter is holding onto their closet chapstick thinking I’m sick in the head. Now while that could still ring true there is reason to my madness.

So I don’t know about the rest of you out there in the world but living in Canada and going through Toronto winters, I had lip balms in every jacket, bag, pocket and crevice I could put one. So the fact that my lips always got really chapped had nothing to do with not having access to one at all times and using it, they just didn’t work or didn’t work for long.

I struck gold a few months ago back in march, when one of my favourite bloggers (Victoria from Inthefrow.com) posted about her favourite luxury lip balms and I came across lips oils. Of course my next step was to go into Sephora and pick up some lip oils. Two and a half months later I am happy to report, I am a completely convert and have replaced my lips balms with lips oils.

Clarins Instant Light Lip Comfort Oil

The Clarins lip oils have made it to the top of my list as my favourite. These retail for C25 and I picked up mine from Sephora. These are my favourite because they have the thickest most comfortable formulation with the slightest tack initially that keeps them on for hours. They are so hydrating  and create  a protective barrier on your lips. If your lips are chapped, cracked or really dehydrated, these oils are perfect.

01- Honey, is the one I tend to use the most as a lip balm under other lip products, overnight and while i get ready in the morning. I personally do not think it smalls or taste like honey but it smells divine regardless.

02- Raspberry .smells like raspberry and is my most used as it was the first shade i got and I wear this on its own a lot as it offers a slight pink tint which I have loved all spring and now into summer.

03-Red berry, which is the best smelling of the three shades as well as the one that offers the most colour payoff. This has definitely been my most reached for shade for when im not wearing makeup or very little. It just makes your lips so juicy and so comfy.

YSL Volupte Tint-In-Oil

The YSL lips oils definitely make you feel so fancy, they hands down have the best packaging (yes it matters lol ). These are a lot lighter in texture and they do not last as long on the lips as the clarins oils but I still love it. The are perfect for spring and summer, especially when you don’t want or need that thicker layer of moisture. These retail for C36 so they are the most expensive of the brands this post will cover, but I think there worth it especially if you grab the brighter shades.

03- Undress Me is my most recent pick up from this line, it’s one of the lightest nude shades. For my trips this spring I wanted a nude shade that would be perfect for the beach and just really casual and this was perfect. If you’re looking for colour payoff this is not the shade for  you.

08-Pink About Me, was actually my first shade I picked up and my first lip oil. This has amazing colour payoff. I should note, that because this formula only last so long, the more you  apply the oil the more pigmented the colour becomes on you lip, it basically leaves a stain behind after the oil dissipates.

A slight downside to the stunning packaging of these oils is if you’re not careful with the wand the product will pool around the rim and leak. Now I’ve not experienced this personally but a friend of mine that I got into these lips oils as well, has had one leak and ruin her makeup bag so do be mindful of this.

Lancome Juicy Shakers

Finally is my newest acquisition in the lip oil department as they only recently became available to me here in Canada and these are the cutest things for summer. The juicy shakers I think have the best, softest, cushion most amazing applicator that makes you want to just sit and pat your lips with them non stop. I love that they look like little margarita shakers, I love the  packaging it’s almost impossible to spill ( I have tried) and the colour payoff is the best of the three brands. I currently only have one shade but I’ve been loving it for the three weeks I’d had it,  using it almost everyday and I’m already eyeing some more shades for summer.

Apri-Cute is a stunning orange colour, in the bottle it looks to have some shimmer but they do not translate on the lips. The colour is stunning and your lips look so juicy. The formula is very light and comfortable, with that said this last the least on your lips. But who cares, there so darn cute I don’t mind pulling it out, shaking it up and applying.

If you where eyeing any of these oils or your like me and was just tired of lip balms that don’t work, gives these a look you wont regret it, they are my best discovery this year so far. If you so, leave me a comment let me know what you think and let me know if there is any brand or shade I need to get.

Skylar Skin

Forever Flawless Serum

A few months ago, I think it was the end of November I met Brittany from Skylar Skin. She came into my work to talk about the new line we were carrying, which was the Skylar Skin: Flawless by Friday: 5 Day Detox System. I was really interested with this line because of the ingredients they used and the price point. Let’s be honest companies make you pay for good ingredients and I really appreciate it  when I can get great ingredients for a reasonable price. I think Skylar Skin does an amazing job at delivering quality products for a reasonable price.

I say all this to say I was not so patiently waiting for the release of the the Forever Flawless serum ever since that day when Brittany told me about it. When we finally got them in store  a few weeks ago I snatched up a bottle and I’m so in love with it .

The Forever Flawless serum comes in at  100g for  $40-44 CAD depending on weather you pick it up online from skylar skin or in-store  at Trade Secrets.I think, and I’m sure lovers of high end skin care would agree, is surprisingly reasonable prices when you compare it to similar serums on the market. I appreciate that in store the box is sealed so I don’t have to worry about people getting there grubby hands into the product.

Claims:

The serum comes with the following claims to treat  :

  • fine lines and acne
  • improves uneven skin tone from scarring and texture
  • Also improves dullness, oiliness and blackheads.

Ingredients

  • Water (Aqua)
  • Hyaluronic acid (2%)
  • Glycolic Acid (5%)
  • Alcohol Denat
  • Sodium Hydroxide
  • Lactic Acid
  • Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract juice (20%)
  • Hydroxyethcellulose
  • Citric Acid
  • Malic Acid

For some reason when I first tried the serum I was surprised by the texture, probably because in the bottle it looks like water, but it does  in fact have  a thick serum like texture. I really like the ease of application you get from the pipette, you simply dispense s few drops onto clean hands and press it into the skin. Initially it feels tacky but it absorbs quickly and the tackiness goes away. Due to the glycolic acid in this serum it is recommended for night time use only and it’s important that sun protection is used during the day.

I have dry skin and I suffer from eczema and I was so impressed with how moisturized my skin felt after application as well as when I got up the next morning. I’ve had a really stubborn spot of dried texture skin on my right cheek for a few months now and it’s gone. I really credit the smooth texture of my skin and the disappearance of the dry patch  to this serum. I do not suffer from acne and never have but I have been traveling a lot recently and got one small blemish while in Miami and it literally dried it up in around two days. I feel as though the serum has definitely boost my moisture levels, calm the onslaught of blackheads I usual deal with and made my skin look and feel plump and full. I also have a co worker who is in love  as well with this serum. She has super oily skin,is  prone to breakout and has more mature skin than I do and she too swears by it. So I think it’s safe to say all skin types can benefit from this product. If you’ve never used a serum before which was me a year ago, heres a great one to try.

The only con I’ve found to this product is how fast you go through it. I was shocked to see the dent I made in the product after my first four uses (literally 3-4 drops per use), with that said I think the performance and price point makes up for it. This product gets my stamp of approval. Definitely stay tune for more reviews from this company, there are some mask I’ve been eyeing up.

You can order from the Skylar skin website skylarskin  or pick it up in Trade Secret stores

What I did for my 23rd Birthday

As a soul that lives to travel, that has become the norm for my birthday over the years. With that said no two trips are the same and this year was no acception. This year I opted for a family trip to Florida to some of my favourite places for some fun and sun.
Here are some photos from the last few days of what I got up to on this trip… First stop was Miami

So thankful for my family and living to see another year, Miami’s been amazing, now off to Orlando for the rest of this trip.

What’s In My Travel Makeup Bag

It’s that time of the year when everyone is off on vacations, typically to a place that hot, and so travel essentials are a must. As I am currently in between  trips i though what a perfect time to share my top  beauty travel essentials.

As I have just come back from a trip to Jamaica and I’m  currently packing to leave for Miami, why not get into the products that will see me though all this hot weather.

First up is the Bobbi Brown Hydrating Face Cream- I bought this on a whim a few days before my trip to Jamaica and OMG was it perfect. I have dry skin but Jamaica is hot and this just had the perfect amount of hydration and absorbs very quickly. The best part of this as a travel essential is that makeup applies so smoothly over the moisturizer and I can skip a primer.

Paired perfectly with that is the eye cream from her , which has replaced the two I usually use at home, after all one that gets the job done and travel size is more than enough when you got heat to deal with.

The real MVP of my travels is the Bareminerals complexion rescue tinted gel cream in spice .So here’s the thing, I’ve had this since November and have used it and love it but something happens when this gets in the heat.

First Jamaica and now Miami, this applies so easily ,with your fingers it simply melts into your skin . It’s light weight, and the finish is so natural and flawless plus the coverage and added sun protection, talk about perfection.

What ever you though you knew about this in the winter, forget it and try it in these summer months.

Finally as a ride or die Banana Boat fan since I was little ,I don’t leave for sunny vacations without it, I fell in love with the sunscreen oil spray last summer in Punta Cana and it’s in my bag this year as well. I just love how my skin looks and feel while using it and I tan fast without burning, can’t ask for more. With that only being SPF 15, when I’m not tanning I use the sport power stay SPF 50. No matter your race or complexion use sun screen , skin cancer does not discriminate.

Anyways, just though I’d share my travel partners with you all as I know it’s vacation season, try them out and let me know if they work for you too and comment any recommendations for me to try,I too will be flying a lot more this summer .
