One of my favourite things in the world is being on a plane
Photography: Shaquille Pesso
Hey guys, hope everyone is having a good weekend, I know I’m taking this weekend to relax as much as possible. I made a list of literally 32 blog post ideas but here I am writing about something that was no where on the list but I’m so excited I had to get this out.
If it’s one thing I have learned from my Mother is the importance of taking vacations. The older I get I realize just how much being in the same environment all the time drains me. Whenever I feel over whelmed and stressed my mind naturally goes to looking at places to visit. Honestly just looking at places to visit is enough sometimes to get me out of the funkiest moods.
I’ve found it so important to go somewhere new, meet people, have new experiences and genuinely enjoy being somewhere I’ve never been. I have first hand experience of how that soothes the soul and recharges you both mentally and physically. I’ve also seen the effects traveling has on the people I know, how it allows you to broaden your understanding of the world around you and equally as important, find your self and how you fit into the world (or stand out if I’m being completely honest).
Travelling to different places and meeting new people for most of my life I think hands down is the reason why I am as open and not judgemental as I am. Even if I don’t agree I am fully capable of understanding and seeing where different people are coming from and how dynamic situations truly can be.
I say all this to say I suggest everyone dedicate some time and of course your coins to travelling and exploring the world around you even if it’s just spending the weekend in a nearby city you’ve never visited ( I’ve done this twice already right here in the GTA).
Here is a list of a few places on my list to visit in the near future
Hope you enjoy the post, get out there and explore the world around you, and no, don’t wait until your retired,do it now.
Let me now where you’re panning on visiting next and your dream places to see, and where you’ve been already. I have a cruise coming up in a little over a month, hence my excitement about travelling that promoted this post. Get ready for a lot of travel content as I’ll be visiting multiple countries on this cruise.
I am continuing with my colour trend series from the fall (Fall Trend: Red) and this time around it’s the bright yellow trend for the spring/summer. I am literally obsessed with yellow it’s all I’ve been picking up and looking at when shopping. The going joke is it’s my theme for my upcoming travels next month (get ready for the pictures!!!)
I know not everyone is comfortable with incorporating colour in their outfits so I will also be listing my favourite pieces for injecting some yellow without looking like big bird.
I started off building the outfit with the main event piece, the yellow shorts. These tailored beauties are a new arrival spring piece in from Marciano. Having a coloured bottom is always an easy way I find to incorporate colour without it being too much.
Then I pulled these scrappy sandal out, I bought these for Cuba last summer and haven’t worn them since but they were perfect for this fit. I love pairing really scrappy sandals that tie up with bare legs, these are from Steve Madden.
It would not be spring/summer if I didn’t have on sunglasses. I love designer sunglasses (and wear them all year round), however something about spring/summer that speaks to Ray Bans specifically so I had to pull out my aviators.
The final piece to the outfit was the bag, not you could easily go for a cognac coloured bag match the colour of the sandals but me being me opted for more yellow with my De Lovet bag. Be prepared to see my style this stunning piece a lot this season.
I love this fit so much, it’s clean, simple and somehow loud and bold all at the same time in the best way. There is so many ways to pump up the most basic outfit with this bright yellow coloured, so I’ll link some of my favourite options on the market right now.
I hope everyone is enjoiying the beautiful weather we are experienincng here in Toronto on the glorious saturday. If not, I hope the weather is good were ever in the world you are. I’ve have been consistently using most of these products for a few months now and some for a little over a month and I am obsessed so lets get into it.
Since the year started I have been switching between Dior’s poison girl and Narcisco Rodriguez eau de perfume but lately it’s My Burberry Blush that I can’t stop wearing. It’s to the point now that I have to actively make and effort to wear something else but seeing as I am already halfway through the bottle it’s clear I’m losing that battle. If your like me and you like more masculine scents, this is a fresh floral twist in that without being over powering.
If you have been reading the blog or following my social media account you would have seen that I cut my hair really short in March and I have been loving the low maintain style. I needed styling products that would keep my hair styled all week without touch ups but keep my hair hydrating in the process and so I decided to try out the brand Lotto Body and I’m loving these products and they smell soon good.
Fortify Me Strengthening Leave in: I’ve come to love very liquid leave in this past year and that remains true even with the new cut. I love that it is light weight but effective and keeps my hair moisturize all week.
Moisturize Me Curl & Style Milk : Again I love how light weight this moisturizer is and how long (a week) it keeps my hair hydrated.
Wrap Me Foaming Mousse: I was on the hunt at the time for a mouse to use to set my hair that would give me the hold i needed without making my hair hard ad crunchy and this did just that.
Olay Daily Facial Dry Cloths: Talk about a lazy girl staple, I love these so much ,unlike wipes you don’t have to worry about them drying out, there already dry just add water. These cloths removes all makeup (including waterproof mascara) and cleanses the skin, very simple yet effective.
Pixi Glow Tonic: this is my 3rd bottle of this toner and it’s hands down the best toner I have come across. It’s gentle while ridding your skin of makeup reside and impurities all while it exfoliates the skin with 5% glycollic acid.
Pixi Glow Mist: I use this in place of an essence or serum as a layer of moisture and have love it. This is my second bottle since August last year and I don’t see myself stopping the use of this product anytime soon. If you have dry skin this is amazing, you can even apply it after makeup to boost your skin’s glow.
Clinique Pep-Start Eye Cream: Of all the eye creams I have used over the year this is my favourite because it’s just so simple to the point. It adds moisture and de-puffs the eye, and I love the packaging as it stays sanitized and the applicator feels amazing on your under eyes.
Clarins Hydra-Essential Moisturizer: This has been my go to moisturizer, I love that it’s light weight without being a gel and infuses the skin with a lot of moisture but is light weight and not sticky.
L’Occitane Dry Skin Hand Cream: This is one of those products I’ve heard about for yeas but didn’t know I needed it. It is so hydrating and thick but it’s not sticky and gross. Now $30 for a hand cream is steep but I’d be lying if I didn’t say it’s worth and and I’ll be buying another when I run out. Also weird enough I love how the packaging gets all dented when you use it, it’s only very satisfying.
BareMinerals BarePro foundation : I got this literally because every beauty guru had this foundation in their best of 2017 videos so I had to get my hands on it. I am so glad I did because as much as I don’t care for fuller coverage foundations I like this one because it is light weight, medium to full coverage and wears very long. I love the finish, it’s natural and it doesn’t look dry and cakey on my skin.
Mac Face and Body: I have been loving this for more daily wear since last summer and that hasn’t change, for a while I wasn’t wearing any base makeup but lately I have been reaching for this one and I love it.
NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer: This is a tried and true favourite and although I have tried out a few different brands these last few months, I found myself back to my old favourite this last month.
BareMinerals BareSkin Sheer Sun Serum Bronzer: With the sun slowly making appearances my urge for a summer glow has been in full effect and nothing gives you a nice glow healthy bronze quite like this product. Even when I don’t wear makeup I put some of this on just to add some life and dimension to my face.
Essence Light Up Your Face Luminzer Palette: I’ve always like essence’s highlighters but they were always a part of limited edition collections so when I saw this pallet in the permanent collection two months ago I had to have it. I have not stop using this palette on a daily basis especially the shade on the right hand side.
Clarins Instant Light Lip comfort Lip Oil: If you’re a longtime reader of my blog you know how I feel about lip olds, these Clarins ones are my favourite and I have been loving this tangerine flavour so much I’m almost thought the bottle. Read More
Revlon Lip Butter: These are one of my favourite lip products of all time and Pink truffle being my favourite this is my fourth or fifth tube over the years. This has been my go to lip colour when I don’t want to fuss about it. It offers moisture and the perfect my lips but better colour for me.
Burberry Kisses Hydrating Lip Colour: I receive this rose blush shade for christmas and it has been my favourite lipstick to wear ever since. The formulating is moisturizing and the colour payoff is very good, especially with how long the colour last on the lips.
Two Faced Sweet Peach Lip Gloss: This formula of lip gloss has become my favourite in the last year. The shade Papa don’t peach has been my go to nude lipgloss that I literally wear it with everything almost everyday.
In twenty-five years here is a list of things I have learned about life
Photography: Shaquille Pesso
April 28 marked my 25 birthday and I really felt compelled to make this list. For anyone that knows me knows just how crazy the last year has been for me and sometimes I myself don’t even know how I keep going, but I do. Here is just a quick list of the things I’ve learned about myself, life and people in general in the last 25 years that I’ve come to find useful things to remember. let’s get started..
Stress will kill you, things will work themselves out
Life is a journey, enjoy it.
Don’t let fear keep you from being who you are, the people who matter will catch up with who you’re becoming.
When people show you who they are, believe them.
Travel as much as humanely possible, nothing will beat those experiences.
If you don’t like where you’re at in life, change your situation.
Hard work, dedication and consistency are the true “MAJOR KEYS” to success.
Goal setting is a skill, it’s ok to not be good at it at first, just keep at it.
Dream big, then make a game plan to attain those dreams.
Social media is a tool, do not make it your life.
Never apologize for being who you are.
Take advice from people who’s lives you actually want.
If you can’t afford to buy something twice and still have money in your account, you can’t afford it.
Your personal style is an expression of who you are, screw the rules.
Music heals the soul, dance parties in your mirror always make everything better.
Food is one of the best parts of living, eat and eat well.
Don’t ever let yourself become someone’s doormat.
Do not hoard negativity in any aspect of your life, cut it/them out.
Water, wine and ginger ale are the fluids of life.
Always invest in shoes, accessories and jackets.
You’ll never please everyone, so do what makes you happy.
Human beings are capable of the most amazing and the most vile things, put nothing pass anyone.
Common sense is often not very common.
Laugh a lot
Always make time to celebrate your birthday, life is a gift so enjoy it. The world is a better place because you were born.
There is a good chance some of those seem corny, but corny and true is fine with me. I hope you found something in that list that resonates with you. Will be back to weekly post now that I am finish with school for the summer. Subscribe if your not already so you don’t miss out on the amazing content coming your way.
So I don’t know about anyone else but I am so ready for spring and summer, so much so I’ve already switched over my closet (check out my stories on instagram). I am now in that awkward fashion spot where the weather hasn’t quite figure out what it wants to do so my outfits consist of me just throwing on all my favourite things, hence my Good Friday outfit.
The last step in my organizing my closet for a new season is to make a list of the things I want to add for the upcoming season so I though I would share that list with you, get comfy.
Let me know what your spring picks for your wardrobe are, what are your favourite stores to shop for new in pieces? I am so excited for the up coming season and creating more content (especially travel content), let know below what you’re looking forward to for the summer.
Hey Guy’s I know it’s been a while (school has been crazy and work doesn’t help) with that said it was worth the wait. I had a completely different post to go live but I was introduced to this brand and couldn’t say no. A good friend of mine introduced me to the brand DE LOVET ( pronounced”DEU-LEAU-VET”) and I instantly fell involve. I am always down to support good quality products especially from local brands.
This brand sells affordable leather bags that are designed in Canada and produced internationally. De Lovet are all about Woman empowerment and shows this through designs that are both beautiful and powerful. For my first purchase I had to get the Imani Mini Block Shoulder bag in mustard from their spring/summer 2018 collection. If you know me, you know I love a mini cross body and this colour is so bold and beautiful and perfect for me.
The saffron leather is very durable and the design of the bag is very structured and spacious for how small it is . I love the silver hardware, it has a nice weight to it but it is not heavy. Nothing is more of a turn off for me that a bag that has such heavy hardware that you can’t put anything in it before it starts hurting your shoulder. This design is available in black and baby blue (currently sold out), I have seen the other two colours in person and they are just as stunning. I really want to get my hands on the baby blue once it comes back in stock, it is a trendy colour for the spring season and is so versatile to style.
I am so excited for what this they will come out with in the future (the Imani mini’s in more colours please !) Click the link below to check the out, I’ll leave some of my favourites linked as well.
I would be doing this brand a disservice by not mention just how top notch this piece is in terms of the quality of the bag. You definelty get a luxury feel right down to the dust bag. I wan enamoured I couldn’t wait to wear it and now I am so excited to style it going forward, get ready to see it all over my instagram @notquiteabeautyguru, and you should defeinelty check out DE LOVET and get your hands on a piece before they sell out.
Let me know what you want to see on the blog, I have alot of content planned for this up coming season as well as much more travel content than last summer so get excited!
This is the time of year that I get into a fashion rut as winter is my least favourite season. However this is the time I find that specific brands will really standout to me because I am simple not in love with everything. This is when I like to browse stores and websites for inspiration and plot what I will be investing in to add some life back into my closet. Here is my run down of the brands I find inspiring and what I am lusting after from their current and new in collections.
I have been obsessing over their leather jackets and bags but lately it is the shearling jackets and all the beautiful knitwear that has my attention. I love the quality and design of all the pieces and think they are worth the price tag.
Aritzia as a whole is doing some really wonderful things right now, but there are specific house brands that speak to me and Wilfred never disappoints. This is my go to for slightly more trend influenced pieces but of quality.
My longing for warmer spring weather and planning for a few trips has me running to my favourites, for beautiful tailoring (shorts especially) and stunning prints. I am currently obsessed with the glitter sneakers ( I have the silver and the black) and I am dying to get my hands on more for the spring and summer seasons.
As I am getting back into yoga this year and also I am taking a nutrition class I actually need to step up my workout gear and Lulu is calling to me. There recent drops are right up my alley, functional and fashionable all at the same time.
This is a newer brand to me, but I am so excited to get my hands on a few of their pieces. I absolutely love their stance and module on sustainable fashion and the design and style of their offering is in no way compromised because of it. I am dying to pick up the styles below and also do a full brand review.
This is my number one stop for when I was quality pieces that just makes me feel like a real girl boss. Their tailoring is unquestionable and worth your coins, if suiting and tailoring is your thing, you need to check them out.
This is my first stop for slightly quirkier pieces that are still high quality fabrics and great design. They are new to the Canadian market and are very different from the store we are used to having here and I am loving it.
This is self-explanatory, if you don’t know, now you do. This is where I like to go for pieces that you won’t see on everyone. Outside of the fashion, the homeware selection is amazing and makes you want to buy a house just to decorate it with everything Anthropologie.
*Disclaimer* some of the links in this post are affiliate links !!
Hope you all enjoyed that and found some inspiration from the brands and pieces I am loving right now. What are the brand or retailers you look to for inspiration? What pieces are you lusting after ( feel free to leave links to the pieces)? Where are you shopping right now ? I would love to hear all about it so sound off n the comments below.
Normally I am not one to have resolutions but after the 2017 came to tear me down, I’ve decided that I needed to step into 2018 with a game plan. I have never been so ready for a year to be over like I have been recently, I just felt like so much happened this past year and all though it wasn’t all bad and many good and positive things occurred, the bad, was astronomically bad. And as if just to give me a last kick, the last two weeks before the year ended included someone hitting my parked car in the parking lot and leaving and someone stealing clothes out of the dryer while my clothes were drying ( who raised these people). I say all this to say is that as much as I have a lot of goals this year ( work, school, and my blog) , the most important area for me is my personal wellness.
Here are my goals to help me get to where I want to be and remain sane in the process.
I started going to a yoga studio near my house this summer and fell involve with it, I had so much energy and over just fell less stressed and happier after a session. However trying to balance school and work this past fall I felt I didn’t have time and so I didn’t go and I really felt the effects of it. This year I will make time and do yoga at least twice per week.
2. Laser Hair Removal
My number one insecurity I have is just how hairy I am and the marks I have from being plagued with ingrown hairs. I have looked into getting laser hair removal randomly throughout the last two years but have always put it out ( my pain tolerance is non-existent). With that being said thought, this is the year I am going to get something done I have already decided on a clinic and I am giving myself until February 1,2018 to get an appointment for my consultation done.
3. Eating Better
I am the worst at eating breakfast and I am going to change that this year, now saying I will eat it everyday is a stretch but I will try. To aid in this I will be keeping fruits and breakfast bars on deck so I can grab and go if needed. Also I will be cooking dinner atlas twice a week to ensure I am not eating out as much as I did last year. To go along with all this I will be picking up some cook books because I get really bored eating the same things at home so this will be the year of experimenting with cooking different (non Jamaican food). I have already picked up Jamie Oliver’s 5 ingredient cook book, but i have yet to try. Although I am not capable of being vegan (I LOVE meat), I will be incorporating more plant-based meals.
I am someone who wakes up very early (as soon as the sun cracks the horizon), but I am terrible at going to bed. This year I am giving myself a bedtime to ensure I am intact getting enough rest because no matter when I go to bed, I cannot sleep in.
5. Skin Care
I am the worst person at removing my makeup before bed, and that will change this year. Having a bedtime will help with that as I will then have a time to get ready for bed. However if all else false I will be keeping a pack of makeup remover wipes beside my bed for when exhaustion hits and I simple can’t get up and go to the bathroom. Also I’ve never had a facial, that will change, aiming to get one every month this year .
I love massages and I do not get them nearly enough, I have the most tense left shoulder (I carry a lot of tension in my neck and shoulders) and sometimes it’s so bad it swells. This year I am making it a priority to take time out monthly to get a massage.
I need to make time to read more this year, and I mean my own personal reading, not relating to school. When I was younger I would get lost in books when I was stressed or felt down and they served as a healthy break from reality so I will be getting back in to that. I currently have some books I purchased back in October that I haven’t gotta a chance to read yet. Here is the currently line up ; The Grim Sleeper (need to finish this), The Subtle Art of Not Giving A Fu*k and the Rooster Bar.
Clearly I was living under a rock and did not know how amazing the bath & body works aromatherapy line was until November. I use the energy and the sleep body washes every day, I really like them and I think they work. However I think the real stars of the show are the candles, I have already gone through the focus , comfort and stress relief candles and I am obsessed. This year I am definitely going to get into aromatherapy more as I found it so helpful and will be including reviews on anything good I find here on the blog.
I will look at my planner EVERY DAY!!! I amaze myself with how much I procrastinate, it’s almost like I reveal in rushing (I’m clearly insane). However I have been better using my planner now that I am back in school fully, but I now will include planning out content for my especially with all the content I want to create on here (exciting times ahead).
10. Time Out
I will make an effort to take time out for myself. Not entirely clear what this will look like exactly ,but me time is a must this year. I literally will take an entire day to myself atlas once a month to do something for me ( could very easily be me in bed with a book ).
What are your resolutions this? Are you looking to make better choices when it comes to taking care of yourself? Let me know, I would love some suggestions for any of my listed resolutions. Leave your comments below, what do you want to see on here?
