Real or Faux Leather

As a budget conscious fashionista myself, I spend a lot of time deciding if a piece is worth investing a little more in or if I should opt for the cheaper alternative. I though it would be a great idea to do a series combining what my wardrobe essentials are and which pieces are worth splurging or saving on. This is the first instalment in this series so it only seemed right to start with one of my favourite essentials, which is the black leather jacket.
I absolutely love leather jackets and have gone through my fair share of inexpensive ones. However I absolutely think that it’s worth investing in a good one that fits you well, has great structure and is a silhouette that suits your esthetic.
Here I have opted to invest in this beautiful Moto-style lambskin leather piece from Marciano. By no means however do you need to go the realm of actual leather to get good quality, well structured piece. If you do not want real leather I highly recommend going to Zara. They always have beautiful cuts and good quality faux leather jacket that are under $100 CAD. I myself am eyeing a few, especially the ones that are more trendy with embellishments.
If you are looking into investing into a good quality leather jacket, the two places I recommend would be All Saints and Marciano. What I love about All Saints is the utter selection and colour and finishes are amazing. The quality is unquestionable ( I’m dying to get my hands on one of their suede jackets in a light colour), once you find the one for you it will be worth the $595-$680 CAD price tag. However if your on more of a budget like myself, Marciano is the place for you, their jackets are beautiful lambskin leathers that are buttery soft with great structure and of a more affordable price range ($398-$428 CAD).
Anyone that knows me know that I would live in jeans and a t-shirt as long as I have killer shoes and an amazing jacket and this one is no exception. I literally do not know how I would get dress without a black leather jacket in my closet. It adds the edge needed to any outfit, it’s the most versatile jacket in my closet as I live in a city that’s got the most temperamental whether possible.
It’s absolutely worth looking to invest in a good quality leather jacket. Getting a very classic cut in black or in a colour that fits your style is worth it. I do think if you’re going the faux leather route it’s still important to get one of quality that has a good cut. More important than the fabric of the jacket is the cut, get a style that fits you and your closet needs. Make sure it’s in a shade that works for you even if it’s not black, what ever works. I think grey, brown, navy, off white or beige are all great colours to invest in.
Here are some good options to start your hunt for pieces worth investing a little more in, both real and faux leather . Don’t forget to look out for sales and promotions when looking for investment pieces, and if you’re going to order online use Ebates, it’s an amazingly easy way to save money online.
